[据微软官方的数据](http://news.microsoft.com/bythenumbers/index.html)，Windows 和 Windows Phone 的应用数量达到 56 万个。这意味着自去年 11 月起，微软应用数量增加了 3.5 万个。

尽管稳步增长，Windows Phone 应用生态依然堪忧，微软之所以加快 Windows 和 Windows Phone Store 合并的步伐，正是因为 Windows Phone 应用的匮乏以及功能的欠缺。例如，全球拥有 3 亿用户量的 Instagram 在 Windows Phone 平台上至今仍是 Beta 版本，流程程度甚至不如第三方的 6tag 。

平台的繁荣才能激发开发者的热情，而开发者的热情又决定了生态的规模。作为 Windows Phone 的竞争对手 iOS 系统，去年它为开发者创收了 100 亿美元。而 Windows Phone 的应用生态一直没有良性运转起来。据此前[ VentureBeat ](http://venturebeat.com/2015/01/07/is-microsofts-windows-phone-at-long-last-dead/)报道，在美国，Windows Phone 市场份额已从去年同期的 4.3% 降至 3%。
